You will demonstrate a minimum of 1 year recent NICU experience and hold a recognised neonatal qualification. Experience of mentorship and current professional development is essential. Evidence of working towards a degree is desirable. Consideration will also be given to post-graduate Child Branch nurses or midwives who wish to develop within the specialty.

The Newborn Intensive Care Unit provides for a population of 5300 deliveries a year currently offering all levels of neonatal care, with referrals to regional centres for surgery.

We have 21 cots, 4 designated as intensive care, 3 high dependency and 14 special care. The unit can offer you experience in caring for the premature infants and sick newborns with varied types of ventilation.

There is a structured orientation programme with mentorship, and excellent development opportunities. We offer paid study leave and secondment to Enhanced Neonatal Intensive Care of the Newborn, R23 for senior posts, Newborn Intensive Care course for Band 5, plus extended role and a personal development programme.

The unit has active participation in the regional network, aiming to enhance neonatal care in this area. We have a neonatal outreach service as part of the multidisciplinary team. Internal rotation with self rostering and flexible working patterns in practice.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated neonatal nurse to come and join our team. You must have proven managerial abilities, extensive clinical skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative whilst leading a team of nurses. You must be RN/RGN/RSCN/RM qualified with Neonatal intensive and special care course and teaching and assessing equivalent essential, R23 an advantage. You should have relevant experience at Band 6.
